Are you feeling stuck?

Are you feeling stuck?

For a lot of people, Covid-19 has been a rollercoaster of stop-start career development.  But even without these most challenging of circumstances, feeling ‘stuck’ in your career is not unusual. Different scenarios can all lead to similar feelings of professional unfulfillment, anxiety and struggle – perhaps that is you now.  The good news is that there are simple ways to rediscover your motivation and achieve your potential.

Does this sound like you?

 ·       Does your current role feel like it is on a plateau and you’re unable to summon up the momentum to  contribute your very best?

·       Are you experiencing the same professional self-doubts continuously bubbling up, that won’t go away, and you’re struggling to ignore the low confidence and fear of being found out?

·       Are you going through a life transition, like moving ‘home’ from abroad or getting the kids back into school, and your professional path is wholly unclear or not playing out the way you planned?

I’ve experienced the exhaustion too

I know personally how draining it can be to feel professionally stuck.  I’ve been in roles where I’ve seemingly “had it all” but I’ve felt lost, lethargic and doubtful about my choices. Relocations from London to New York, London to Dubai and back again threw my drive and motivation. Returning to work after maternity leave left me lacking confidence in my performance.  I’ve felt anxious, deflated and frustrated … and physically exhausted from the whirlwind of ‘what ifs’ in my mind!

You can make a difference NOW by committing to change

Thankfully I’ve found ways to rediscover that energy and drive.  Both personally and latterly as an executive coach, I’ve developed and tested simple techniques that can make you feel lighter, more creative and more committed to your professional future. My techniques have enabled me to act on what is important to me and make the changes that take me to a much happier and fulfilling place in my professional, and personal, life.

Tried and tested ways to rediscover your own momentum

1.     Listen to the Inner Voice - acknowledge how you are feeling and recognise that things can always change if you commit to creating the professional life you want from today.

2.     Know Yourself - make an inventory and reflect on what are your values, where do you feel most energised, what is most important to you, what do you want to achieve and what you have to offer.  Be inspired by the places where you feel at your most creative and learn from the books, podcasts, websites, publications and anything else that brings you joy.

3.     Take a Fresh Perspective - step back to look at what is happening now… what are you grateful for, what do you enjoy, what is missing, what change do you want to make. Don’t feel guilty for wanting more!

4.     Activate your Support Network - share how you are feeling with friends, family, colleagues, a coach or whomever can give you the practical and emotional support that you need.

5.     Take one Small Step - list the small steps that you could take to get to a more productive place and be courageous in taking one small step each day.  You’ll soon feel more purposeful and excited with each brave step you take.

Follow these tips and you’ll be amazed how you swiftly rediscover your professional pride, performance and excitement for the future… whatever it may hold.
